The Republic of Moldova – a country with centuries of winemaking tradition

The roots of wine production started with the Cucuteni Civilisation around 5000 BC. This is why we say that Moldovan wine has evolved with mankind. Moldovan wine tells the history of a country and civilization.
From the 9 th to the 14 th century wine was created using the refined craftmanship of Christian Monks and poured into royal cups by the mist distinguished wine connoisseurs of the royal courts. Today, Moldovan Wine is poured into the glasses of the most delicate sommeliers to express the most intense flavor and 7000 year old winemaking history.

Domaine la Prut

Domaine la Prut combines Moldovan winemaking traditions with Austrian excellence

Domaine la Prut is located in the heart of the Codri Reservation in Gherman village, Ungheni City. The owner of Domaine la Prut, the Austrian oenologist, Wilfried Pfanner, has been perfecting the character of wines for more than three decades. His name is a symbol of the quality appreciated by generations.

At Domain La Prut, we focus on quality and collect forest’s natural aromas and blend them with the juiciest grapes to create the most delicate wine. Our selective wines are carefully produced respecting the ancient wine production traditions and technologies. The flavor is obtained from different grape plants varieties of western European origin, Caucasian origin as well as other regional varieties. We blend the grapes aroma and the aroma of the apples. The grape plantations of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Feteasca Regal, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Feteasca Neagră, Saperavi, are surrounded by beautiful apple orchards.

Our Tradition

Tradition of excellence that begins in 1924

The first wine cellar of the Pfanner family was founded in 1924 in Austria. The success of the family business was guaranteed by their unique and aromatic products that Pfanner produced over generations, among them brandy, apple cider and wines.

The name that stands for quality

The Pfanner family name has become an internationally well renowned symbol of quality products. This quality is reflected in the wines created by Domaine la Prut.

Domaine la Prut is owned by the oenologist Wilfried Pfanner. He is a third generation descendant of the Austrian Pfanner family. Every drop of wine expresses the individuality of the Austrian Pfanner Family. This delicate wine blends Austrian traditions and ancient wine making history of the Republic of Moldova.

Chardonnay from Domaine la Prut

Description: A vibrant golden yellow color, our Chardonnay opens with enticing aromas of ripe pears and barberries with light notes of vanilla. Flavors of stone fruits, elderflower and white apricots are highlighted by hints of capsicum. With medium acidity, this is a fresh, dry and versatile Chardonnay.

Year of production: 2020

Alcohol volume: 12 % by vol.

Recommendations for consumption: Enjoy our Chardonnay with light cheeses, white meat, fish and creamy sauces. This wine is best served at 7 – 10 degrees Celsius.

Sauvignon Blanc from Domaine la Prut – a wine with freshness

Description: Our Sauvignon Blanc is crackling freshness, lively aromas, dry taste, and high-energy character. It opens with typical citrus fruits and gooseberry aromas, hints of green fruit with a mineral note.

Alcohol volume: 12,5 % Vol.

Recommendations for consumption: Our Sauvignon Blanc goes extremely well with any form of fish and seafood, but also with almost all dishes and cheese. This wine is best served at 8 – 10 degrees Celsius.

Sauvignon Blanc from Domaine la Prut – a wine with freshness

Riesling from Domaine la Prut – the Elegance in the bottle

Description: Our wine with beautiful medium straw color with green highlights. It opens with a gentle floral aroma, hints of lime and ripe green apples. This continues onto the palate, with rich flavors of white flowers, green fruits and light notes of apricot. Its well-integrated, invigorating acidity makes our Riesling pleasantly dry and crisp.

Recommendations for consumption: Enjoy our Riesling with light dishes, fresh salads and mild cheeses. This wine is best served at 8 – 10 degrees Celsius.

Cabernet Sauvignon by Domaine la Prut – bottled personality

Red wine with intense aromas and fruity flavors.

Description: Our Cabernet Sauvignon is a red wine made of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. It has an intense red color and delights your taste with flavors of black cherries, black currant and fine notes of dried plums. It is recognized for its fruity taste, well-balanced acidity and a persistent aftertaste with lightly sweet remnant notes.

Year of production: 2018

Recommendations for consumption: Cabernet Sauvignon is recommended to be served at a temperature of 16-18 degrees. As a red dense wine, it harmonizes perfectly with royal dishes: red meat, mussels or refined cheese and Gorgonzola sauce.

Cabernet Sauvignon from Domaine la Prut the wine with personality

Description: Our Cabernet Sauvignon seduces with color, flavor and balance. Invigorating notes of red currant, sour cherry, chokeberries and red bell peppers, with hints of wood tar give this deep ruby Cabernet Sauvignon its unique taste. This balanced wine, with medium acidity, green tannins and a light body, is rounded up by notes of red fruits, ripe plums and earthy flavors. Hints of cloves, cinnamon and licorice add complexity and character to our Cabernet Sauvignon.

Recommendations for consumption: Enjoy our Cabernet Sauvignon with red meat, burgers and grilled vegetables. This wine is best served at 14 – 16 degrees Celsius.

Merlot from Domaine la Prut – a wine full of harmony

Description: This beautiful deep purple Merlot opens with luscious aromas of prunes, cocoa beans, red fruits, violets, with hints of underbrush. A dry wine with velvety tannins medium acidity and well-balanced, medium body with rich flavors of ripe red fruits, plums, and wild cherries in the aftertaste.

Recommendations for consumption: Our Merlot goes perfectly with red meat and pasta dishes. You will enjoy this wine with all types of cheese. It is recommended to be served this wine at a temperature 14-16 degrees Celsius.
